Watch Out for These Affiliate Marketing Scams
63
Affiliate marketing is filled with success stories normally made by average people that never knew how to market in the first place. These success stories are what make affiliate marketing very attractive and it is the reason why companies are on the initiative in making accessible affiliate programs that anybody can take part of. The Internet makes it very easy for ordinary web users to turn into professional marketers and the possibilities just rise from there. Unfortunately, there are other people that want to take advantage of the popularity by coming up with scams in hopes of making their own personal income by immoral means. You can safely avoid these affiliate marketing scams if you can detect one or more of the common signs.
Upfront Fees
Any opportunity that asks for an upfront fee automatically becomes a candidate for scamming. That is not to say that all programs with these upfront fees are downright bad but remember that it is very difficult to get your money back if you made the wrong decision of spending. Then you must realize that there are dozens of affiliate companies that simply do not ask for any upfront fees at all. In fact they even give you things for joining ranging from free advertisement materials to templates that you can use to quickly get started. It is best to go for those companies especially if you are trying affiliate marketing for the very first time.
Lack of Transparency
The opportunity even becomes more suspicious if there are not many details that back up the company. Affiliate companies should be as informative as possible so people know what products and services the marketer will be bringing to their audience. But if the company is selling some mystery vitamins that nobody has heard of before, you might want to consider doing some backend research before taking yourself in this potential scam. Selling bad products can affect your image as an affiliate marketer. If you notice any contact details on the website, you can try reaching out to the staff by showing your concerns about the company before you sign up.
Fake Screenshots and Graphics
The worst affiliate companies may look good on the outside but do the unthinkable by not paying the hardworking marketers that promote the company as promised. These types of scammers usually try to create hype on how lucrative their company is by posting scans of checks or screenshots of payment proofs to tempt people. Others try to be very graphic about it by posting logos of familiar media companies, blogs, and publications. Some sites may have those "As Seen on TV" labels which are very easy to put on a website. Before proceeding, check those claimed sites and see if the sites really talked about the affiliate company. A truthful site should even post the link to these publications for credibility.
Avoiding these scams are not very hard even if some look deceiving. You just need to be alert and do your homework every time you encounter a new company looking for affiliates.
